Basic Steps of Concrete Placement

Prep Work
Before placement of concrete, a site needs to be prepared by use of earth moving machinery. The rocks, lawn, and old concrete materials are removed. The edges and sub base are given special attention for efficient curing.

Forming
After creating the sub base, forms are set which can either be plastic, wooden, or metallic. The forms are secured with wooden or metallic stakes using screws.

Placement
A concrete contractor ensures that concrete mix is ready for use. Small stones are used as aggregate if stamping is necessary. The wet concrete mix is poured to fill up the forms to their top. Shovels and rakes are used to ensure consistency and cover up all the voids.

Early Finishing
A big board is used for compacting, leveling, and smoothening of the concrete. A float is then applied to shape the edges and joints.

Troweling
If the concrete needs to be stamped, a trowel is used after the floating procedure to create a steel trowel finish. The surface is left to firm up first and then steel trowelling done to achieve firm and uniform surface.

Finishing
The typical finish applied in most cases is a broom finish. It entails pulling a special broom across the concrete surface to create a rough texture. Other finishes include smooth trowel, textured, and stamped concrete.

Curing
Concrete must be allowed to cure i.e. harden. Normally, it takes 28 days to cure and the first 2 days re very critical. Immediately after finishing, a sealer is applied to prevent cracks, discoloration, and curls.
